DESCRIPTION:

For this trail the scenic views are probably not worth the effort required to reach them.

 ACCESS:

To reach T203, take US285 northwest from Carlsbad (about 12 miles) to 0.6 mile beyond milepost 45 at its junction with NM137, Queen Highway. Turn left and follow the paved road 32 miles to milepost 22.  Continue along NM137 6.5 miles to the turnoff (left) for FR540 (which may also be signed as Klondike Gap Road).  FR540 is a very good gravel road.  Follow it 4.3 miles to its intersection with FR69.  Turn left and follow FR69 for 2.3 miles to its junction with FR69A.  Follow FR69A 2.3 miles to its junction with FR201.   The junction of FR201 and FR3000 is 2.0 miles east of the junction of FR69A and FR201, the nearest point of access for most high clearance 4WD vehicles.   T203 begins at the lower end of 2.2 mile long FR3000.  T203 itself is 2.4 miles long  and descends to the boundary between the Guadalupe RD and Carlsbad Caverns National Park.   A long section of thecontinuation T203 into the National Park is blocked by a rock slide.  Skilled users probably will be able estimate the location of the trail past the rock slide and work above the rock slide to find the trail again. At present, access through the National Park is uncertain and users who wish to access the lower end of T203 should contact the National Park for that information.
